Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm
Detail:
Beginning Saturday, June 6 Progress Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater will be the “summer home” for St. Petersburg’s Saturday Morning Market. The Market, which typically closes during Florida’s harsh summer months, will find refuge in the cool shade of the Theater’s enclosed, multi-level parking garage.
The Market will run every Saturday from June 6, 2009 to September
19, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. on the first floor of the Theater’s parking garage.
Market-goers can expect to find about 70 vendorsproviding the same great food, interesting crafts and lively music that have defined the market experience and made it as successful as it is today. “The mission of the market is to be the ‘heart’ of St. Petersburg - the place, more than anywhere else, that people feel a strong sense of joyful connectedness and creative community,” says Mark Johnson, Market Director,St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market.
Visitorswill have access to the Theater restrooms on the West side of the building and for the low fare of $1 will be able to park in the open air lot, the northside of the first floor or on the upper floors of the garage. If it rains, customers can park in one of the 200 spaces on the second floor, walk down and shop at the Market, return to their car, and never get wet.
In addition to “beating the heat”, a key driver in the partnership is to strengthen ties between two significant community institutions: the Market and the Mahaffey Theater. “How happy we are that we could help the market and its vendors continue operating through the summer. We work hard with all local entities in every way possible and we feel that having the market at theProgressEnergyCenter for the Arts-Mahaffey Theater is positive for everyone; the market, the vendors and the citizens of St. Petersburg. We’re thrilled to help out”, says David Rovine, General Manager of the Theater.
